At the Search Prompt Integrity & Learning Lab (SPILL), we use a sociotechnical and interdisciplinary approach to understand the growing use of generative AI in search environments. By analyzing how information flows across platforms, we aim to detect the SPILLover of unethical, unequitable, and irresponsible information before it goes viral, develop innovative tools for understanding corrupted terms, and design educational resources to help individuals find reliable information. Through international partnerships, SPILL will translate our findings and tools into multiple languages to support the global fight to protect democracy, health, finance, and other critical information sectors.
